Upcoming Events LARP Support Night, Friday, September 10th: Makeup!

Get together and share creative makeup secrets (scars, bruises, fantasy design, etc.) and also whatever else you'd like to share and work on. The focus will be makeup, but feel free to bring costume, prop, game system or other types of LARP related work you'd like to share and/or get help with.

This will be the night before the Beautiful Madness changeling chronicle (see Links Page) being run by Wyqued, so this could be helpful for anyone playing in that (PC or NPC) that might need/want help.

So, come and hang out, get scarred up, try something new, perfect and share something old, trade and improve ideas and generally come play with makeup and have fun!

On a side note, please no glitter! Makeup with glitter in it is okay, but no loose glitter please! Just a personal preference from the folks who have to clean up (and live) in the house hosting the event.

See the event calendar for specifics and to RSVP (please RSVP, so we know how many folks to expect).

Upcoming Events Events: BOFFER DAY!!! (Saturday, August 14th)

Come and help repair (and maybe construct) some boffers. And then... we fight! If you already have some experience, come and play with boffers a lot. If you've never done it, come and see if you like it.
We will be supplying boffers and materials for repair/construction (our boffers are all home made; we don't have any of the cool, fancy latex ones... yet). This is not a game event, but rather a chance to get some hands-on time with a boffer or two before your next boffer event (or just come have fun fighting with boffers). There may be some scheduled events and types of battle/duels/etc. For those who have never tried, there will be instruction and kind, gentle and patient teachers. Our boffer games lean toward softer boffer action, so there will be no whalloping of each other or actually trying to pummel your opponent into submission.

More details, time and place to follow. Keep checking the Events calendar and in the SHAGLARP Monthly Events forum.

Upcoming Events Chronicle Game in Portland!

Wyqued writes "Beautiful Madness is a chronicle game coming to Portland. For those who do not know, there are two types of LARP sessions:

A One-Shot is a one session stand-alone game, usually with pre-generated characters, though sometimes you can create your own, that is only played once.

A Chronicle is a long running game with multiple sessions, usually with a character you create and play multiple times.

A Game of Beautiful Madness

The protagonists of this modern fairy tale are the changelings, or as they often call themselves, the Lost. Stolen away from their human lives as children or adults, they spent what seemed like years or even centuries in Faerie, chattel to beautiful but inhuman lords and ladies. Fed on faerie food and drink, they gradually became more fae themselves, their bodies shifting slightly to reflect their roles. Some, however, managed to escape. Holding on to their memories of home, they found their way through the winding thorns of the Hedge, the barrier between the mortal world and time-twisted Faerie.

Upcoming Events LARPers Take A Cruise!

Intercon Splash 1 is a convention type cruise that LARPers can attend in October, 26-31st. It takes off from New Orleans, and cruises throughout the Caribbean. This is their second year running, and it looks like the first year was a great success. They have all kinds of activities. They even have services for corporate, honeymoons, and family reunions.

Upcoming Events Important Reminder About SHAGLARP One-Shots

RSVP! RSVP! Please remember to go to the calendar (bottom left side of the page), click on the month of the one-shot you want to play, click on that one-shot, scroll down to the end of the page and RSVP for that game, so that the GM knows for sure that you're planning on playing (and note that you can go ahead to the next few months and RSVP for those, as well, if you wish).

Upcoming Events Events: World Zombie Day

October 26th is World Zombie Day, and Portland celebrates it in style. Please attend the Portland Zombie Walk, Sunday, October 26th, at 4:00PM in Pioneer Courthouse Square, Downtown Portland. The walk is free, and there is an after-party after all the shambling and groaning has been done. The site doesn't list the venue, it does promise a very small venue fee, and says that all profits will be donated to the Oregon Food Bank. It is an all ages venue, with a special section for 21+ to drink at a bar, and it looks like there is going to be some good music featuring punk, horror, psycho and rockabilly bands.

For more information, please check out the events calendar, and/or go to http://groups.myspace.com/pdxzombies

There is also more information in the Read More section

Upcoming Events Events: Gamestorm 11 membership registration is open

For those not in the know, we at SHAG wanted you to be aware of a wonderful convention called GameStorm. This is it's 11th year running, and they are THE gaming convention to be at here in the area (it's in Vancouver).

For those in the know, we would like to remind you that GameStorm is 4 days this year. GameStorm actually starts in the AFTERNOON on Thursday, March 26th, and ends in the EVENING on Sunday, March 29th. That's right...there is gaming going on until the evening during this convention.

Online membership registration is currently active, so make sure to get your membership, for all 4 days, as soon as possible. Membership is currently $30 until Oct 15th which gives you unlimited access to all the LARP, table-top, CCG, Mini, Board and card games you can handle. Other benefits of pre-registering include:

· Gaming for pre-registered members starts on Thursday evening as opposed to Friday
· No long lines to wait at on the really busy days of the con
· Being able to pre-register for games in advance (Including LARP)
· Having one thing less to worry about before the con.

To pre-register go to the following link:
   http://gamestorm.org/register.htm

With over 20,000 sq ft of gaming space, dealers, industry guests, panels, workshops and LARP events being run by various GM’s (some of them being the SHAGLARP staff) March 2009 the place to be is Gamestorm 11.
