In 1943 operation Reinhard was in full swing with the operation of multiple extermination camps set up to fulfill the Nazi's final solution. With a war on 2 fronts and resources dangerously slow the Nazi's began to train Soviet POW's to help man some of the camps. One of those was the Sobibor camp in occupied Poland.

On Oct 14th 1943 300 POW's escaped from Sobibor camp with the aid of the Soviet guards and resistance fighters. Only 50 made it across the borders to safety. While this exodus was happening a small mixed unit of British and American troops were infiltrating Poland to extract an important person for the war effort, and came upon a group of the refugees. Knowing they needed to help the G.I's joined with the refugees and are trying to get to safety behind allied lines. Our story begins here, with the Nazi's in hot pursuit, and fear, fatigue and night settling in as you rest at the old manor the resistance uses as a pick up point for refugees the question is simple: What would you do to get out of the Reich in one piece?

This game is able to accommodate 30 pc's and we are in need of around 2 more males to be a part of our stage hand/npc crew.

PC's are going to be categorized as Refugees (communists, jews, gypsies, homosexuals) and military personnel (British, American and Polish) with character descriptions coming out in the next week or so.

Before You RSVP
There are a few stipulations for people who wish to play this game:

1. 18 and over: unless cleared by Demihappycow or myself all players must be 18 and up, exceptions can be made on a person to person basis.

2. Period costuming, period: the next post will be about the costuming requirements,we will have some bits of costuming like always and it will be simple enough, but t-shirts and blue jeans is not an option Wink

3. Serious themes: Ok, this is a game about racial extermination, occult horrors, war, the terrible reality of the camps and many other serious themes. There might be racial slurs, might be sexism and there will definatly be occult and nazi iconography and themes. If this offends/ disturbs you greatly we encourage you to sit this one out. Everyone playing needs to know these things can come up.

4. Respect the Venue: We are holding this event in one of the Haunts at Fright town. This is an amazing opportunity to host an amazing event, so please don't trash the place, they are letting us use it for free and on hours not opened to the public.

There may be an issue or two that are added to this list, but the final list will be completed by the end of this week. after that point what is on here is the final list of prerequisites to play this game.

Costuming

So the costuming for this game is really simple but we wanted to get the info out as early as possible. For more ideas you can also look on google for images of refugees and ghetto prisoners from world war 2. But below are the general rules of thumb.

Men: button up shirts that are plain and subdued in color, no stripes, logos, or bright colors, whites, tans, and light blues are acceptable colors. You might also want a vest or jacket, a long coat, wool jacket or even a slightly ratty suit jacket would do nicely. for pants slacks are really the only way to go, for colors black, grays, browns and earthy tones would work well. for shoes, look for penny loafers, slip on "nice, dressy" shoes, you can go to goodwill and pick up a less than in good condition pair for cheap. Remember that these clothes will not be in the best condition. They may be your only pair, they may have been given to you in the ghettos so they are too big, too small etc. You've been traveling and the clothes should reflect the wear and tear.

Women: For women in general the standard is a simple sun dress with a floral or plain pattern. think subdued light colors. A frame cuts were very popular then as well. you might have had to wear slacks and a button up shirt, but this is not socially acceptable in most circles. You might also want a man's coat as described above, these were often given to the women to help keep them warm in their dresses. Shoes can be somethings simple, low slip on shoes that match the period would do very nicely, they also were typically given mens shoes at the ghettos as well. Some younger women would wear bandannas on their heads as a simple fashion accessory, these were worn often when they did camp labor.

Culturally specific costume tips:
The only 2 real groups that had specific costume tips would be the Gypsy and Jewish populations of the camps. below are tips for all the categories of refugees in play in game.

Jews: for Jewish older men they wear hats to remind them that god is watching above. the stereotypical dress would be black and white for men and a simple dress for women, for more ideas check out Fiddler on the Roof, Schindler's List, uprising and any other 40's period film.

Gypsies: there are some strict codes for gypsy dress. Men typically wore a simple shirt, slacks, a vest of a brilliant color and jewelry denoting their standing within the compania they were a part of. Women were no to wear red unless it was an undergarment used to spook off spirits. they wore brightly colored layers in earth tones, jewelry denoting their status in the compania they traveled in. think bright colors, layers, but jewelry would be scarce, and the clothes in some disrepair.

Homosexuals: just like everyone else...but possibly fabulous...

Communists: no special dress except many of them had trinkets or items reminding them of the 1917 revolution that birthed communism in Russia.

G.I's: the typical dress was like average people since they were on an infiltration mission. But if some one wants to go all out and get a world war 2 military outfit I'm sure we're not going to stop you Wink

There will be some costume/prop specifics that we will be providing for specific characters as soon as the character outlines are posted.
If you have any other questions on costuming please ask and we'll answer as promptly as possible.

Characters

Military personnel:

(Taken by Alvy) Corporal Frank England – You are an American G.I who was sent in with the SAS and their Cichociemni allies to extract a Nazi defector, Trained in Demolitions You might have moved higher in the ranks if it wasn’t for Your temper and over-emotional state at times. You were on your way out when you came across a group of refugees. The polish resistance people seemed pretty intent on helping these people and you can see why…

(Taken by DoctorWhy) Captain Christopher "Kit" Fox- A British SAS sniper, you were working with the Polish resistance to extract a Nazi defector when your team stumbled upon a group of refugees. Your mission is really more important than these people, but you can't just leave them to die...

(Taken by Tigerman21) Piotr Gryzbowski- A member of the British trained Cichociemni and an interrogation specialist; you encountered the refugees while assisting with the extraction of a Nazi defector for the allies and you're going to get them out whatever it takes, to hell with that Nazi bitch.

(taken by Ender) Rybnik (roob-nick) – Your life before the war seems like a distant dream, you proudly joined the call to help your country stand against the Nazi forces that were invading your homes. When the call came to surrender, you did what almost everyone else in the army did. Keep fighting, better to die on your feet than live on your knees. As long as you are able you’re going to take as many of those German bastards down. Even if you have some busted ribs your still going to fight the good fight. You go by the name of your home town and went from being a G.I in the Polish army to being a G.I in the Armia Krajowa.

(Taken by Rogue) Jan Sobczak- Part of the Armia Krajowa, you were a med student before the war. You were supposed to be helping with the extraction, but you can't turn your back on all these refugees.

(Taken by Kent) Shamil Saidashev (Sah-meel sa-eed-a-shev) - Part of the soviet cavalry you helped in the invasion of Poland. After the initial take over you were stationed to patrol the boarder. After the Nazi’s turned on their agreement with Russia you were captured and send to be a prison guard for the Sobibor Extermination camp. You’re military training was in cavalry tactics and demolitions, and have lost the use of an eye during the revolt.

(Taken by Ikelos) Madeline Hirsch - A code breaker for the Nazis. You became aware of the holocaust, and eventually opted to defect to the allies rather than be party to something so awful. Saving the refugees is important to you, a chance for redemption almost, but this house you're all taking refuge in seems... off somehow.

Jews:

(Taken by Ex-St) Rabbi Edelman (adel-man) - You were one of the Rabbi’s at the Lida Synagogue and Talmudic School near Pinsk. You were there with many of your followers and students then the shells came down and the tanks rolled through the streets. The Synagogue was destroyed, but you never have lost the faith and God did help you. He allowed you all to escape and try to make it to allied soil. So you are trying to lead your flock to a safer land, one that has not been consumed by the devil, a trail since you have a broken arm.

(Taken by DragonflyDreamer) Ariel Shelomo- Somewhat standoffish and awkward even with your fellow Jews, you have always been more interested in ancient texts and the Kaballah than other people. Even now, you're pretty sure none of the others trust you, but to hell with them, you intend to get out of this alive.

(Taken by MisterX) David Wiesmann – You were going to Lida Talmudic school like your mother and father expected of you. Training under Rabbi Edelman, then the Nazi’s came. They killed your mother and tortured many more. They stole and defiled and destroyed everything you ever knew. Then you went to one of the work camps. You watched your father pray and refuse to eat on the Sabbath. He died in that camp. And where was God? No where. You decided then and there that you were not going to die like so many of your fellow prisoners. When they sent you to Sobibor you were re-united with your uncle and that fueled your need to escape. You helped Kramer in the initial riot that led to the camp being freed. You and your uncle are getting out, Period.

(Taken by Lisa) Shoshana Kramer- Still a teenager, you're just trying to get yourself, and hopefully your older sibling and cousin Libi out of this alive, which would be easier if you hadn't been shot in the leg while escaping...

(Taken by Wyqued) Libi Perlowsky (per-low-ski) – You were a well enough young girl, you had a normal life. You helped your father in his general goods shop. Then the war came, you did better than most at first. You gave out rations and the soldiers came and took the goods they needed and left you alone. Then things got scarier, you were rounded up and sent to stay in the ghetto. Many people died then, you then were marched to a work camp. Something happened at the camp, something that killed all the joy inside of you. After arriving in Sobibor you were re-united with some family and escaped. Despite your own problems you’ve always been good at helping to calm other people down.

Gypsies:

(Taken by Silverblade18) Ziemowit Kalderesh (ze-mow-it Call-der-esh) – You were the head of your family and were recently taken while traveling in an attempt to get out of Poland. You were sent to Sobibor and shortly after the revolt started. In a strange way it was the right place and the right time. Though not all of your family made it out alive, you still are trying to get yourself and your mother to freedom.

(Taken by Fogcat) Baba Kalderesh- An older woman, you weren't in the best of health before being captured by the Nazis, and now you don't expect to long survive even if you do escape. So long as you can get the other gypsies out alive you'll be content.

(Taken by Di) Mira – (meer-a) You are an old an grizzled gypsy that has seen persecution, hatred and derision for as long as you can remember. Through all of this you and your people have survived. That is because your people have gifts. You are a pariah of sorts among other gypsies, but you do what you must to protect yourself and other gypsies. You were taken to Sobibor after you and a companion were caught killing some Nazi’s on patrol.

(Taken by Lokie) Nicu Cazmyrick- A polite and well spoken individual, respected amongst your own people, you had begun your own plan for escape when the revolt happened. You took a shot in the gut while escaping that the medical types keep seeming nervous about, so now you're just trying to keep everyone calm and cooperative in hopes that they can get out of this alive.

Others:

(Taken by Warr)Anya Braun (brawn) – A psychiatrist by trade you were watched heavily from the beginning of the Nazi party’s rise to power. Psychology was seen as a Jewish science created to propagate the Jewish disease. It didn’t help that you had other tendencies that the Reich didn’t tolerate. After escaping you met up with the group of refugees who had also escaped and joined them, after all strength in numbers.

(Taken by Boomslang) Katrina Cervenka- You were shipped off to the extermination camp due to your membership in the communist party, and once there became one of the capos responsible for running the ovens and getting prisoners slated for execution into the "showers". Though you were involved in planning and carrying out the revolt the other refugees still don't seem to trust you, and you can't really blame them...

(Taken by Muffin)Prof. Malenkov (Mal-in-cov)– You were a Professor of Languages at Moscow University, and a proud member of the Communist party. When the Russians started fighting the Reich you were drafted to serve in a communications division near the front. When you made it to Sobibor the Revolt happened a few days later and you were spared death. You have been on the run ever since.

(Taken by Lionheart01)Dagbjort- No one knows much about you, as you don't speak Polish or German. The only one you can communicate with at all is Prof Malenkov and even that is only in broken latin. If only you were able to talk to them, to warn them all...

Just for curiosity, how do you pronounce "Cichociemny"? And is it Cichociemny or Cichiociemny?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cichociemni

It is Cichociemni actually (editing the spelling on that now), and I haven't actually found anything on the pronunciation. So unless someone who knows something about Polish wants to chime in here, we will probably just go with the translated meaning, Silent and Unseen.

So demihappycow and I have been talking a lot the past day or so and we have decided that this Cthulhu live event is going to be the beginning of a series of games that are going to be intertwined. Not a chronicle so much as a particular story arc that will flow into one cohesive story by the end. We'll still be running one game a year (give or take an event or so), but this was more of a heads up to everyone playing that if you are interested in seeing the story to the end, you might want to make sure to sign up for our next Cthulhu event Wink which will be in the fall.

There was talk of a date change for this game (due to some new news from the venue). Is that for sure, yet?

Feel free to PM pictures to either myself or Demihappycow. We'll most likely have an amount of costuming to help people. To be honest, though it is period it is still a rather simple and contemporary setting. Any simple dress, plain low-top back slip-on shoes and a bandanna would be suitable. Also we list some films that have some great reference stuff. anyways let us know and we'll see what we can work out. Also you might want to decide on who you'd like to play, since that will probably affect what you wear Smile
