This post is to elaborate on the calendar event, to give more detailed information about how the game works, what it is about and all that jazz.
Background flavor:
The rule system is going to run extremely similar to Mind's Eye Theatre's 2nd edition of Laws of the Wild (their werewolf LARP). Only in this game you all are going to be playing Fallen Angels. Now in this game's history the Angels did not rebel against God out of pride or hate, but rather out of a love and desire to help man. Though after a war with the angels, the fallen felt that they were betrayed by both their creator and their charges. Sentenced to the pit, the fallen spend eons in hell, hearing the cries of pain from the world of man, but unable to touch it. To make matters worse, their leader Lucifer was nowhere to be found; he was not put in hell, but has disappeared. Eventually there were cracks that developed in their prison and the younger, weaker demons where able to slip through and go to the world of man. Finding a body that was weak with faith and about to die, the demons take possession of them and lead a double-life.
Some demons want to regain their previous place in heaven, some want to be all the great things they once were, yet others only want to punish mankind for their betrayal all those years ago.
RULES:
Conflict resolution is handled by paper, rock, scissors. When you enter a challenge you play rock, paper, scissors and whoever wins the game wins the challenge, initially. On a tie, whoever has the most traits (social, mental or physical) wins the tie. If it is an equal number traits-wise on a tie, both players lose one trait and do another challenge.
Traits- Traits are lumped into 3 categories: physical, social and mental. These are what you bid when entering a challenge. The rule of thumb is if you can use it in a sentence applied to the challenge it is an appropriate trait you can bid (i.e. I am so brutal I'm going to hit you). If you lose the challenge you lose the trait you bid. Once you lose traits you never gain them back without spending a willpower trait. The total number of traits you have in a category help you in winning ties on challenges.
Abilities- These are used as re-tests if you lose a particular challenge. You still lose the trait you bid initially, but you can use re-tests to see if you can still win the challenge. You have to use an appropriate ability for the challenge in question and the other player can use their abilities to re-test against yours. Once they're gone though, they're gone.
Willpower- Willpower is used to give you that leg up you need in a pinch. In small number and pretty powerful, willpower is hard to come by. Willpower can be used for the following:
- Automatically win a static or simple test (not a challenge)
- Replenish all lost traits in a single category (physical, social, mental)
- Heal a level of aggravated damage
- Ignore the penalties of damage for one round
Willpower, like the other traits, are gone once you use them.
Faith- Before the fall, Angels fueled their control over the world with the faith imbued to them from their creator. After the fall their faith in their creator was broken. Though a horrible, beaten down version of what they once where, they are still angels. And still have power over creation; this is fueled by their faith in themselves and sometimes their faith in humanity. Demons who have high faith scores tend to be more angelic and good. Faith is used for the following:
- Change from your normal form into your Apocalyptic form which is your true form (which normally takes a turn to do)
- Fuel your powers over creation (called lores)
- If you have high faith and low torment, you can heal a wound that will keep someone from dying for one round.
Torment- The flip side of the coin of faith, torment is the accumulated humiliation, pain and fear that plague the souls of the damned from spending millennia in the pit, with nothing but the cries of the dying world of man all around them. Some demons have high torment which makes them more bestial, hurtful and generally bad. Torment can be used for the following:
- Take an additional combat action in a round (they can use this multiple times and cannot be harmed in the additional challenges unless their opponent also uses torment)
- Fuel their warped versions of lores
- If you have high torment and low faith you can use torment to heal yourself a health level per torment trait used.
Houses
These are the demonic houses that are in this game:
Defilers: originally meant to inspire man and control the vast oceans. At their best, they inspire man to venture into the unknown and keep grasping for the stars. At their worst, they are pinnacles of lust, jealously and manipulation.
Devils: former members of the Seraphim, the devils were the generals and heroes of the fallen. Lucifer himself was a devil. At their best, they are the pure awe-inspiring champions of the faith. At worst, they are masters of lies, deceit and false hope.
Devourers: angels who watched over the land and the beasts of the world. They helped man tame and live with both. At their height they were the shepherds of humanity and harmony. At their worst, they are violent destructive forces of nature.
Fiends: the pattern makers and web spinners of the cosmos, they were in charge of keeping everything interconnected and working properly. Low torment fiends are great scholars in pursuit of knowledge and willing to share with all, while lower faith fiends bend reality to their whims and wish to inspire madness and corruption in the pursuit of knowledge.
Malefactors: creators of things and masters of the earth, the malefactors were the cornerstone of civilization. Angelic malefactors create great things of beauty and purity, while their tormented brethren create objects that inspire greed, hatred and idolatry.
Scourges: They healed the sick and had control over maladies, the scourges were those who helped keep humanity healthy. At their best they are the caring doctor and mystic healer, at their worst they are plague bearers and bringers of pestilence.
Slayers: those who helped man into the land of the dead as well as those who helped keep balance, the slayers have always been more removed from man. At their best they are caretakers for those about to die, easing the pain associated with death. At worst, they are the reapers of the young and innocent, and bringers of pain.
That is a lot of the basic information one needs to know to play the game. If you have a preference for the type of character you'd like to play, any questions, etc. please feel free to contact me via PM or at my e-mail address larpfiend@gmail.com. Please remember that if I do not know at least 4 days before the day of game whether you want to play/or observe the game, I will not be able to accommodate you.
Hope to see you all soon!

Just for those who do not know this (since I just realized we don't actually state this anywhere. LOL), if you want to RSVP for one of the monthly one-shots, go to the calendar (located at the bottom left of the screen, way down there) and click on the date of the one-shot (or even just the calendar) and then find the event. There will be some other info there as well as a place at the end of the entry to click to RSVP for that game. _________________ "Everyone's here to have fun. Okay folks, so we're getting down to the wire for the Demon larp I'm running on Dec 6th. This is your friendly reminder to RSVP via the calendar section of our site, and for those who have RSVP'd I need your preference of character/house or else I will assume you just want to play and I'll whip you up a character.
Hope to see you all soon!

You know me, I'll play anything. If there's a type you need that hasn't been asked for, or a type you needed for the story, I'm your man. There was no character type (from either angelic or demonic sides) that I didn't like in some way. Let me know if you have something in mind that you need. Otherwise, I'll come up with an idea.
And, yeah, get back to Di. LOL. You know how she is with costuming (granted, I also know she's so good she could whip something up overnight, that she sewed from scratch, but let's not put her through that kind of stress. LOL!). _________________ "Everyone's here to have fun. If you're being an a**hole, then someone's not going to have fun. So, don't be an a**hole." Wow! It sure WAS, back then. Now it's right around the corner. What happened to our time? Oh, yeah, Halloween, Orycon, band gigs, job searches, life... oh, yeah. _________________ "Everyone's here to have fun. If you're being an a**hole, then someone's not going to have fun. Ok, So first off I beg the forgiveness of all my RSVP players who are going to be receiving their character background sheets in the next hour or so. I meant to get them out sooner but life has been intervening more than it should
Also to those of you on the site who have not signed up yet, please, please, PLEASE get me in your character requests ASAP so I can get you a character sooner rather than later. I will have a few extra characters available on game day just in case, but it will be first come first serve. So I hope to hear from you soon and see you on the 6th!
Oh! one more thing, If you are interested in LARP but not quite ready to dive in, please feel free to come and observe and see what all the fuss is about =)

COSTUMING!!!!!!!
ok so I figured I'd send out another post relating to costuming. All pre-generated characters have pointers on appearance and can work with that. But to go a little deeper on how the look is, in the World of Darkness the general look is a mix of punk, goth,Victorian, and street fashions.
Think of such films as The Crow, Underworld, SLC punk, from hell.
Think leather, lace, layers of clothes, suits, your average Joe even wears dark layers that have that goth-punk tinge to them.
A t-shirt & blue jeans will get you killed in this world. Everyone has a fashion statement. That being said, you don't have to go crazy looking for a costume that is insane in style. Just keep in mind the mood is dark, foreboding, and slightly oppressive. Even the brightest stars have the trash from the gutter clinging to them.
Another note is this, yes we are playing demons. However, I am asking to refrain from over the top demon imagery, wings, horns and the like are not the feel of this event. Think of it this way, you are a demon wrapped in the visage of the human body you took control of. So your sense of dress, make-up and body language has a tint of the type of creature you are. for example, if you are a scourge healer who is angelic in nature, you might want to consider wearing something that makes you seem nurturing and easy to approach, as opposed if you are a demonic devourer you might have scars, shredded clothes and more bestial movements. The clothes and make-up makes the demons, so let your fallen character manifest their type via their wardrobe and make-up (if using any) we will have some costume pieces to help get the feel but I encourage you to root through your closet, go to the local garage sales and thrift-shops and see what you can find.
Any other questions please feel free, I am really looking forward to Saturday and hope I can help you guys have a great larp game experience!!

COSTUMING!!!!!!! ... we will have some costume pieces to help get the feel
If you really don't have anything on hand to get in the mood or feel of your character, have no fear. I shall be providing a large bin or two of costume pieces and accessories to help out (yes, I'm just a fellow player at this event, but as one of the SHAGLARP Moderators, it's part of my job to provide this service, as well).
Also, if you have some idea of some piece (or just a general idea of costume), go ahead and PM me and I'll see what I can do. Without exaggeration, I have two rooms in my house devoted to costume (clothes, wigs, shoes/boots, hats, gloves, etc., etc.), so feel free to hit me up for something to borrow for this event.
I've already started a pile of generic, World of Darkness feel clothing (and some odds and ends that might just fit some of the odd personality styles of the fallen angels). I made sure to put some stuff in there that hints of angelic inspiration, Heaven, Hell, etc. (like the nice black velvet shirt with Mary on the back, the black shirt with a white tribal wing design on the back, etc.). There's some t-shirts with comic book/band designs (Morbid Angel, Razor: Angel In Black, etc.).
I'm going to look at the space with Jason later today and see if it looks like we can block off a small area for putting the costume stuff and changing clothes (the place is being remodeled, so I don't know how done the bathrooms are. LOL).
So, yes, please don't be shy, feel free to drop me a line and I'll see what I can do. Even if I can't help you, you'll be helping me, by letting me know what I'm short on in my costume supplies. LOL. _________________ "Everyone's here to have fun. If you're being an a**hole, then someone's not going to have fun. So, don't be an a**hole."
